The Director, Airport Affairs will be responsible for developing strategies and managing day-to-day interactions at key airports throughout the Hawaiian Airlines system. This position is directly responsible for influencing more than $60 million dollars in annual rent and landing fees. Coordinates with leadership from internal business divisions on all airport affairs related matters including, capital programs, sources and uses of funding, rates and charges methodologies, and lease negotiations. This position requires the ability to develop and execute a strategic approach to airport real estate and requires familiarity with best airport real estate business practices to ensure optimization of gate and other airport facility utilization.
Represent Hawaiian interests with airport authorities and business partners to serve the company's airport real estate needs at strategic locations throughout the Hawaiian Airlines network
Negotiate and administer airport use and lease agreements, subleases, operating and other agreements and rates and charges methodologies with airports
Responsible for strategy development on airport capital improvement programs, airport master plans and internal growth initiatives
Prepare business cases to support decision-making regarding strategy development and/or procurement of airport real estate, relocations, right-sizing and other CRE related transactions
Regularly coordinate and produce updates for company leadership
Maintains deep understanding of the airport rates and charges models in effect or under consideration
Partners with key internal business contacts including network and capacity planning, marketing, airport operations, maintenance, and external/government relations
Develops reports, strategies and concepts for airport projects, initiatives, and business opportunities
Proactively anticipate changes in user charges at airports and works diligently with industry peers and local management to both justify the increases and minimize the impact to Hawaiian
Undergraduate degree required, preferably in aviation/airline administration, real estate, business, finance or related subject
At least 7 years of aviation experience in airline or airport management, airport affairs, property management, airline/airport operations, preferably with large hub airports
At least 7 years of experience solving complex airline/airport development/operational issues, preferably at large hub airports
At least 5 years of experience in a leadership capacity or with commensurate responsibility as an individual contributor
At least 7 years of experience with airport rates and charges models, preferably at large hub airports
Knowledge and experience in the administration and negotiation of airport lease agreements
Ability to perform financial analysis, interpret architectural drawings and understand the complex nature of airline operational requirements
Intimate familiarity with airport Grant Assurances and Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) regulations
Superior ability to present complex problems and situations to senior leadership and to drive resolutions with limited guidance
Proficient with Microsoft Office Software (e.g., Word, Outlook, PowerPoint); advanced MS Excel experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels within the organization
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, shift priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment, while exercising sound judgment to make decisions
Willing and able to travel at least 30% of the time
