The Manager of Environmental Compliance position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all environmental regulatory requirements related to federal, state, and local laws, rules and ordinances, applicable to the City of Atlanta, Department of Aviation (DOA) operations.
This professional position requires extensive regulatory knowledge to ensure all environmental regulatory obligations are strictly adhered to. This specialized position routinely exercises environmental project leadership over multiple and often complex projects, provides guidance and training to other professionals, and/or serves as a technical subject matter expert in one or more specific areas as needed. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to; ensuring compliance with all applicable DOA permit and reporting requirements including the Title V Air permit, Industrial Wastewater permits, Industrial and Construction Stormwater, GA EPD Remediation activities (CAP-A, CAP-B), SPCC and UST requirements, Asbestos, Mold and Lead abatement and HSRA notifications.
Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related field
5 years’ of progressively responsible environmental compliance or engineering experience which includes 3 years of supervisory or administrative experience.
Preferred Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology or a related field and 10 years’ of progressively responsible environmental compliance activities or equivalent environmental experience which includes a minimum of 5 years’ of supervisory experience.
Licensures and Certifications
Valid State of Georgia driver’s license is required. The State of GA certifications in the following are beneficial: Asbestos Inspector in Buildings, Sedimentation and Erosion Control Level 1B, and UST (Class A, B). Must be able pass background check as required in order to obtain DOA security badge.
Essential Capabilities and Work Environment
Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully. Typical environmental conditions associated with job.
Knowledge of Airport operations, ability to perform site visits which may include many different types of building structures (building roofs, piping etc.), and natural topography hazards including natural waterways, forest and landfills.
This position may also require short notice work hour reassignments, extended work hours as necessary to mitigate emergency situations and the ability to provide on-call assistance.
