SBN seeks an Airport Operations intern available to work 25+ hours a week for summer semester. Interested applicants must be able to fulfill the bulk of their hours Monday – Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Hours needed to be worked for special operations will be included within the weekly total but may go past the 4:00pm timeframe. The Airport Operations Intern will work closely with the Airport Operations Manager and Operations Specialists.
Qualified candidates must be pursuing or possess a degree in Aviation Management, Business, or closely related field, with an interest in airport operations. • The candidate must have a valid and active driver’s license and be able to operate a motor vehicle. • The candidate will be required to work 25 hours a week or more, dependent upon discussion with management about schedule. • The candidate must be able to pass a background check and security screening.
The selected Airport Operations Intern will gain experience in all aspects of airport management. Areas covered are airside operations, landside operations, terminal operations, access control, airport badging, communications center operations, airport property management, air rescue firefighting, airport marketing, public relations, air service development, and airport administration.
• The individual will be exposed to airport tenant meetings, provide support to the local community, assist in operations projects, and respond to any operational issues during their shift. • Airport operations duties to include: identifying, preventing, and removing all hazards to aviation including FOD, Wildlife Management, AOA incursions, Part 139 inspections, SMS functions, Winter Snow Operations, and much more. • Oversee airfield construction to maintain a safe and efficient operating environment. Learn how to issue and record NOTAMS. Any additional projects, tasks or duties as assigned. • Must possess good situational awareness and can multi-task.
Upon completion, the individual will have developed the skills necessary to perform at the Operations Specialist position or equivalent. The internship will begin and end at agreed upon times between the selected individual and the Airport Authority.
