The Birmingham Airport Authority is currently recruiting for the position of Facilities Manager. Under limited supervision, the Airport Facilities Manager is responsible for day-to-day management of all airport operational functions including airport facilities, grounds, and building maintenance, environmental compliance, and supervision of all maintenance personnel. The Airport Facilities Manager will serve as primary liaison with the Federal Airport Administration (FAA) for the purpose of ensuring FAR Part 139 compliance; performs related duties, as required.
Ensure operational compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
Plan, organize, coordinate, direct, train, and mentor subordinate staff in the daily operations of the Airport.
Manage the airport facilities, grounds, buildings, and infrastructure.
Plan, supervise, and direct the maintenance and repair of all airport buildings, airfield, and airport equipment.
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate maintenance crew. Manage daily staffing requirements and evaluate employee performance.
Train and educate staff on the safe use of equipment. Promotes occupational health, safety, and risk management within the department to prevent harm to workers, property, the environment, and general public.
Assess and maintain inventory of equipment and supplies necessary for maintenance and repair operations. Ensure viability and dependability of all critical systems and equipment.
Manage the airport environmental compliance programs, which include storm water, air quality, and those that are lease directed.
Assist in the preparation and monitoring of annual operating budgets.
Assist in the development and direction of construction work at the Airport.
Review invoices, project bids, vendor quotes, and approve expenditures.
Draft project cost estimates and bid documents.
Manage various projects, including those performed by vendors and contractors.
Inspect airport facilities, grounds, buildings, construction sites, and tenant leasehold areas.
Ensure lease and safety compliance.
Respond to a wide variety of requests for service, tenant complaints, and emergencies.
Coordinate Airport activities with the general public, contractors, tenants, regulatory agencies, consultants, other governmental entities, and others.
Assist the VP of Facilities in coordinating emergency and security exercises.
Performing administrative duties involving the use of independent judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.
Maintains regular and punctual attendance. Works extended hours, outside of regular shift schedule, as required by operational needs.
Bachelor’s degree in Airport Management or Business Administration or a closely related field and 4 to 6 years related leadership/management work experience and/or training in an airport maintenance environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience managing winter weather and emergency events is essential.
Valid State Driver’s License and Commercial Driver’s License both required along with excellent driving record.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Required to stand, walk, and drive large equipment a significant portion of each shift. Must use hands to finger to handle gears, shifts, and steering wheels, reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Works extended hours, outside of regular shift schedule, as required by operational needs.
